A Stay at Midalidare Estate – One of Bulgaria’s Best Winery Hotels

As a wine enthusiast, it’s something of a miracle that it took me so long to visit a Bulgarian winery. I’ve enjoyed Bulgarian wines for many years and always wanted to explore some of the country’s excellent wine regions, but somehow never quite got around to it.

That all changed when friends gave us a two-night stay at Midalidare Estate as a wedding gift. Knowing how much I already loved their Silver Angel Sauvignon Blanc, they couldn’t have chosen a more perfect present.

A Relaxing Stay Among the Vineyards

We arrived on a beautiful sunny afternoon and immediately felt ourselves slowing down. After checking in, we booked the winery tour and wine tasting for the following day before settling onto the restaurant terrace for what was intended to be a leisurely lunch. Several glasses of our favourite Sauvignon Blanc later, lunch naturally turned into dinner!

The hotel restaurant is excellent, with beautifully prepared food that perfectly complements the estate’s wines. The gardens are immaculately maintained and the whole property feels peaceful and thoughtfully designed. With around 70 guests at full capacity, the hotel strikes a lovely balance, large enough to offer excellent facilities, yet small enough to feel relaxed and personal.

Touring the Winery

The following morning we headed to the winery itself, just a few minutes’ drive from the hotel.

Our guided tour gave us a fascinating insight into the winemaking process, from grape to bottle, and it was impressive to see the scale of the production while still feeling connected to the craftsmanship behind every wine.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a guided tasting in the gardens, where we discovered several more Midalidare favourites to add to our growing collection.

Spa, Wine & Great Food

After another delicious lunch back at the hotel, we spent the afternoon unwinding in the spa.

It’s genuinely one of my favourite hotel spas in Bulgaria, with a large indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna providing the perfect place to relax after the morning’s tasting.

That evening, over dinner, we opened a bottle of one of Midalidare’s reds that quickly became another firm favourite.

Midalidare is somewhere I’d happily recommend whether you’re a wine enthusiast or simply looking for a relaxing weekend escape. Even if you’re not staying overnight, the winery tour and tasting alone make it well worth the journey.

And when we can’t make it back in person, we often order our favourite bottles directly from the Midalidare website, where they conveniently deliver throughout Bulgaria via Speedy and Ekont.
