Playing Golf in Bulgaria – A Guide to Bulgaria’s Best Golf Resorts

Many people are surprised to discover just how good golf in Bulgaria has become.

With championship courses designed by internationally renowned architects, spa resorts and spectacular scenery ranging from mountain landscapes to dramatic Black Sea cliffs, Bulgaria has quietly established itself as one of Europe’s most exciting golf destinations.

Whether you’re planning a dedicated golf holiday or simply looking to combine a few rounds with a relaxing spa break, there are several excellent resorts to choose from.

Our Favourite Golf Resorts in Bulgaria

Pravets Golf & Spa Resort

Less than an hour from Sofia, Pravets is one of the easiest golf resorts to reach from the capital. Designed by Peter Harradine, the championship course is complemented by a luxury hotel, excellent spa and beautiful lake views, making it perfect for both golfers and non-golfers.

Pirin Golf & Country Club

Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Pirin Mountains, Pirin Golf combines championship golf with one of Bulgaria’s best mountain resorts. The Ian Woosnam-designed course is challenging enough for experienced golfers while remaining enjoyable for those newer to the game. Its proximity to Bansko also makes it a fantastic destination.

St. Sofia Golf Club & Spa

Just outside Sofia in Ravno Pole, St. Sofia Golf Club is the closest championship course to the capital and ideal if you’re looking for a day of golf without travelling far. The club also offers a spa, swimming pools and boutique accommodation.

Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort

Perched dramatically above the Black Sea, Gary Player famously described it as:

“You will not find a golf course like this anywhere else on the planet.“

With spectacular cliff-top fairways, luxury accommodation and private beaches, it’s one of Bulgaria’s most iconic golfing destinations.

One of the biggest surprises for first-time visitors is the quality of Bulgaria’s golf resorts.

Not only are the courses beautifully maintained, but many combine championship golf with luxury hotels, spas and restaurants, making them ideal for couples or groups where not everyone wants to spend the entire day on the course.

Compared with many Western European golf destinations, Bulgaria also offers excellent value for money.
