Travelling by taxis
When taking a taxi in Bulgaria be sure to use a licensed company and always check the rates before you start the journey. OK Supertrans are a licensed taxi with reasonable rates, usually 0.79 levs per km. Do be aware of other companies without advertised rates as there are many cases of taxi drivers charging higher than normal rates to foreigners. Also recommended are the apps such as TaxiMe and Yellow Taxi.
Public transport and taking a bus to another city
Travelling across Bulgaria by bus is another great way to explore and enjoy the views on the way. There are public buses, trams and trains in Bulgaria however for a more comfortable and often faster journey check out one of the private bus operators who offer routes across the country at very reasonable prices.
Etap are one of the popular bus companies and depart from all the major cities in Bulgaria.
Travelling in Bulgaria by train is very easy – there is almost no destination you cannot reach this way. You should be aware that trains are currently a bit outdated, however as we recently wrote in a post – there is a huge renovation that will be starting soon. Furthermore, you can buy your tickets online and plan your trip wisely (railways are extremely affordable here so we strongly advise you check this option).
Here’s the link to book your train tickets. You can choose your destination, select your seat and even include a bicycle’s ticket! To pay by card all you need to do is choose “Borica” as the payment option.
