I recently visited Orisha Bar and Dinner in Sofia for the second time. This cosy little bar just off Vitosha Boulevard is such a perfect place to enjoy an after work cocktail or two …
The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The music and menu both have a Latino influence which I love, and the cocktails are delicious! Orisha have a Happy Hour every single day, including weekends, from 7pm-9pm where almost every cocktail on the menu is just 4.50 leva! (with the exception of a just a few). As it’s getting warmer now, last time I was there I had a yummy Pina Colada, one of my favourite summer drinks 😀
We also ordered some quesadillas and nachos to accompany our cocktails … the menu in Orisha is very simple but there’s plenty of choice and everything is under 10 leva. It’s actually one of the few places I know that make good Latin American cuisine in Sofia!
After admiring the gorgeous wooden decor (which I later learned is in fact all handmade) I also noticed the photo of Jay Kay from Jamiroquai. It turns out that this bar has a really interesting story about a visit from Jay Kay a few years ago! If you’re a Jamiroquai fan, I suggest you go to the bar and ask for the owner who will tell you all about it!
Lastly, the name Orisha also has an interesting story … An Orisha is a God in the African Yoruba religion. This religion is all about the belief that humans hold their own destiny and fate and that ultimately we will all become one spirit with the creator and source of all energy. I’m a big believer in the powers of the universe and using our energy positively so I love the idea and story behind this name.
At the end of a busy day, if you feel the need to relax and get back some positive energy then I recommend you stop by Orisha and unwind with a cocktail. You can also book the place for private parties and make table reservations. Just give them a call and they will be happy to help!
