Mr Pizza is another of the very popular restaurant chains in Sofia. They are always busy, particularly at the weekend as they offer a good range of food (surprisingly not just pizza!) and it’s good value for money. I tried out the restaurant on Vitosha Boulevard last night which was a Saturday so it was packed but I’m pleased to say I had a nice experience.

We sat in the covered garden area, there’s a nice atmosphere here although as it’s technically a garden people can smoke so if you prefer to avoid that you should sit in the upstairs restaurant area. I ordered a calamari salad and some salmon sushi. I know it’s a pizza restaurant but I’m trying to be good at the moment as I’ve eaten a lot of pizza lately! Both were really nice and I had a 0.5 litre ‘jug’ of Bulgarian wine to accompany which was great value for money at about 5 leva (2.50 euro). Although I didn’t try the pizza it looked really good so maybe next time!

There are some things to mention but I should point out that these things are not specific to Mr Pizza Restaurants, they are the same in many of the restaurants in Sofia:

What we love about it:

  • Great selection of food
  • Good Bulgarian wine
  • Relaxed atmosphere

What they can improve:

  • On a weekend when it’s very busy – expect the service to be a little slow and don’t expect to receive all your meals at once, especially if you’re in a large group. It’s quite normal in many places here for someone to finish their main course before another person in the group has been served!
  •  Check your bill – again, this is not just here but EVERYWHERE. When they are busy, it’s very common to have mistakes on the bill. It happened to us yesterday as the first choice of wine we ordered was unavailable so we had to order another, when the bill came they had charged for both! It’s usually small mistakes like this but 5 leva extra every time you go out can really add up!
