Hidden away on Mount Vitosha is this wonderful and very cosy restaurant. A rest stop for hikers or just a retreat for someone wanting to escape the city, either way, it’s a perfect place to have some home-cooked food in the beautiful surroundings of Mount Vitosha.
I’ve been here twice, the first time was on a cold winters day after taking a long walk in the mountain. We stopped here for some hot soup and sat inside the simple but perfectly comfortable restaurant. It was too cold to sit in the garden but it did look very pretty all covered in frost.
The second time was a summer evening, around 9pm after we had been to see the views of Sofia from the TV Tower. In fact, when we arrived the restaurant appeared to be closed but the chef saw us outside and invited us in anyway. She then kindly prepared us the most delicious kebapche (minced meat kebabs) and kofte (round flat kebabs with herbs) all served with bread, salad and Lutinitsa (a traditonal bulgarian tomato / hot sauce) and beer. If you want to enjoy the outdoor area it would be perfect to spend an hour or two late in the afternoon when the mountain air is fresh but not chilly. Later at night, even in the summer, it can get quite cold up on the mountain so you’ll definitely need a jacket if you want to sit outside! We hope you enjoy Hija Planinec Mount Vitosha, let us know what you thought!
