During one of my walks I noticed a lot of hanging hams in one of the restaurant windows in the city center. It’s not really a typical view for Sofia, and of course I was really curious about this restaurant. Unfortunately, I wasn’t hungry at all at that time, but I couldn’t help but notice that aside from ham, there also were different bottles of wine, people were enjoying their food and there even was a singer. That’s why I decided to go back there one day, and see what they have on the menu!

Finally, I had to go to Bodega Tapas and Wine Restaurant twice, because I just couldn’t try all of their tapas at once.

What we love about it:

  • The restaurant is really nice, I especially love the beautiful Spanish tiles on the walls
  • There’s a lot on the menu to choose from, and most of the things we tried were really tasty. My absolute favorite ones among the tapas are: tortilla, “croquetas de queso” (fried cheese tapas), and of course “patatas bravas” (who doesn’t like potatoes?!)
  • The restaurant has a nice wine selection, so you can really feel like in Spain with all the eating and drinking!
  • The waiters speak English
  • We came without a reservation and still managed to get a table, which doesn’t always happen in Sofia

What they can improve:

  • Even though our tapas and drinks arrived quite fast, we had to wait for a really long time for some of the main course dishes that we ordered. Everything was still very tasty, but you have to be prepared to do some waiting, and don’t let it ruin your meal
  • As usual, it’s about personal preferences, but I ordered a plate with different kinds of hams and sausages, and the only tasty thing on it was a chorizo. Don’t get me wrong – it was still edible, but had really nothing to do with a good old “Jamon Serrano” or “Jamon Iberico”!

Overall Bodega Tapas and Wine restaurant is really nice and cozy, and is definitely one of the places you should try out – it’s always a nice change from Sofia’s every day food!
