Playing Golf in Bulgaria

Whether you’re an avid golfer, or just looking to get started with some lessons, there are some wonderful Golf courses that you can try in Bulgaria.

The first great news is that from April to September, the weather is perfect for playing Golf in Bulgaria. There will be some rainy days of course, but generally, there is lots of sunshine throughout the whole summer so you will be needing your sunscreen!

Next up, you’ll be pleased to know there are so many lovely Golf and Spa hotels in Bulgaria. This is great if you’re planning a holiday with someone who’s not so keen on the actual Golf part, but will enjoy spending some relaxation time in the spa!

My recommendations for playing Golf in Bulgaria are:

RIU Pravets Golf & Spa Resort

RIU Pravets Golf & Spa Resort is under an hour drive from Sofia and is one of the most stunning hotels in Bulgaria. In addition to the 18-hole, par 72, Championship golf course, you will find a beautiful spa and a 25-metre indoor swimming pool. Alongside this, you also have great restaurants, a bowling alley, tennis courts, gym and a kids club. There are over 200 rooms and suites, all of which boast incredible mountain or lake views.

Take a look at the RIU Pravets Golf & Spa Resort website for more information and to make a reservation.

Pirin Golf and Country Club

Pirin Golf and Country Club is located very close to the famous Bulgarian ski resort town, Bankso, which is just a two-hour drive from Sofia.

Their website very nicely describes the Golf course. “Set against the towering back drop of the stunning Pirin Mountains, the Ian Woosnam Golf Course encapsulates what it means to play golf in the mountains. The golf course takes you on an adventure through the rough and rugged terrain, which is designed to excite and challenge golfers of all levels, while still being enjoyable for beginners.”

In addition, the hotel offers a spa, fitness centre, restaurants, and bars. You can read more on their website, Pirin Golf and Country Club.

St. Sofia Golf Club & Spa

Located in the village of Ravno Pole, less than 30 minutes drive from Sofia, St. Sofia is the closest Golf club to Bulgaria’s capital city. The club offers an 18 hole, 71 par course, a spa with indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a football field. There’s also 4 boutique hotel rooms and 1 suite available.

Take a look at the St. Sofia Golf Club & Spa website for more information.

Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort

Last, but certainly not least, the Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort is probably the most spectacular of all the Golf clubs in Bulgaria. The resort which sits on the Black Sea coast is around a 1-hour drive from Varna airport.

Quoted directly from their website “You will not find a golf course like this anywhere else on the planet.” Gary Player. Framed by rugged coastal cliffs and the vast blue of the Black Sea, the 18-hole Gary Player designed Signature course at Thracian Cliffs is one of the most dramatic golf courses on earth.

You will also be able to relax in the spa, dine in the resorts 4 restaurants, or enjoy lazy days on the beach.

For more information, take a look at Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort.
