Omaya Eco Village Bulgaria

It’s been a while since I’ve written about a new place I’ve discovered in Bulgaria but the Omaya Eco Village is such a gem it just had to be shared!

This place had been recommended by a few people we know and finally, last summer, we got around to booking and I’m so pleased we did!

Close to Gotse Delchev, the Eco Village is tucked away in the forest. You can’t see it from the country road leading to it, however they have well sign posted it so you shouldn’t get lost! The magic of Omaya is that it is a small complex of just 7 houses, all very unique and all completely private. Each house has its own path from the forest leading to it and they are all made from clay and wood, making it feel like you’re camping, but with the benefit of electricity, wifi, a hotel style bathroom and comfortable beds.

The houses are designed in such a way that it feels like a fairytale village. We stayed in “Wonder House” – a cosy little home with a round bed, small wooden dining table, a brick fireplace and an immaculate modern bathroom. The door was made of solid wood and locked with a padlock, making it feel like you were stepping back in time when you entered.

The forest itself is not very big, but there are two larges lakes and plenty of space to walk around and not see another person. The small restaurant is very simple, and the food must be pre-ordered from their extensive menu, which they also offer to deliver to your house if you’re looking for total isolation.

We had a lot of fun walking back from the restaurant after dark on our first evening as we quickly learned there are no lights anywhere in the forest, and we couldn’t remember exactly which path led to our house! So a tip would be to remember the route, and carry a torch with you!

You should also wear appropriate shoes for walking as the paths are all forest paths, so a pair of good training shoes or hiking boots is perfect. Also, I did enquire about taking a dog as it’s a great place for walking and your furry friends are welcome, with a small additional charge.

This place is such a hidden gem that I don’t want to share too much to spoil it, I will simply say go and see it for yourself!

Check their website for availability and prices.
