Midalidare Estate Winery & Hotel
As a wine enthusiast (!) it’s quite a miracle it took me so long to visit a Bulgarian winery. I have long enjoyed various Bulgarian wines and had always wanted to visit the many wineries in Bulgaria, but until recently I just hadn’t got around to it. Then, a voucher to stay at the Midalidare Estate winery was a wonderful wedding gift from friends who knew that I was a big fan of the Silver Angel Sauvignon Blanc which is produced there.
On a beautiful sunny afternoon we arrived at the Midalidare Estate to check in for a 2 night relaxing stay. At check in, we booked our wine tasting tour for the next day and decided to spend the afternoon sitting in the sunshine enjoying a long lunch, that soon turned into dinner while enjoying our favourite wine.
The food in the hotel restaurant is exceptional and the grounds of the hotel are immaculate. This is a hotel that has a lot of care and attention paid to it. The setting is perfect, particularly when the weather is nice and you can enjoy the beautiful gardens. The hotel, with a capacity of around 70 guests, is small enough that it feels cosy, but large enough to feel spacious and not crowded at all.
Day 2, we headed over to the winery itself (just a few minutes drive from the hotel). We were shown around the impressive wine production facilities and learned a lot about the whole wine making process. After our tour we enjoyed a wine tasting session in the gardens where we soon added some more Midalidare wine favourites to our list.
After the wine tasting, and another delicious lunch back at the hotel restaurant, we spent the afternoon in the hotel spa. This is honestly one of the nicest spas I’ve been to in Bulgaria with great facilities including a large indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Following the very lazy afternoon in the spa was a little more wine at dinner, this time it was a bottle of red that we fell in love with. There can’t be a more perfect way to relax in my opinion, spa, wine, good food!
I am so thrilled that our Bulgarian winery experience at Midalidare was so special and I can’t wait to visit more wineries in Bulgaria this year. In the meantime, I often order our favourite wines directly from the Midalidare website and they very conveniently deliver them to my door for free! When you can’t get to the winery, let the winery come to you!
